Glassware you'll need
Based on 1.5 glasses per guest per drink type — people set glasses down and grab clean ones rather than nurse the same one all night, and there's rarely time to wash mid-event. Round up, not down.

Common Questions
- How do I estimate how much beer, wine, liquor, ice, and mixers I need for a four-hour event?
- Use the calculator above — it applies the same rule of thumb most caterers use: about one drink per guest per hour, split across beer, wine, and liquor based on your bar style, then converted into cases, bottles, and liters. For ice, plan on roughly 1–1.5 lbs per guest for drinks alone, more for hot weather or a longer event.
- What should a full-service bartending package include for a backyard party with about 50 guests?
- At minimum: a licensed, insured bartender, a portable bar setup, ice, mixers, garnishes, and glassware or disposable cups sized to your guest count. Quality Barware's packages scale from bartender-only to fully stocked bars for groups this size in the Louisville, KY and Southern Indiana area.
- How many glasses should I actually buy, not just how many drinks people will have?
- Buy for guests, not for drinks. A 50-guest party might see 200 pours over the night, but you don't need 200 glasses — you need enough clean ones in circulation at once. 1.5 glasses per guest per beverage type is a safe, tested planning number for events with no mid-event dishwashing.
- Can I mix and match glassware styles, or does everything need to match?
- For most private events, no one notices if your rocks glasses and highballs are from different collections — what matters is that they hold up to a full night of use. Restaurants and repeat-use bars are the exception, where shatterproof Tritan glassware is worth the consistency.
- Is it cheaper to buy glassware or rent it for an event?
- Rental typically runs $0.45–$0.65 per glass plus delivery and pickup fees, and the glasses go back at the end of the night. Buying real glassware often costs about the same per glass up front, but you keep it — for anyone hosting more than once, or building a home bar, buying tends to win out after just one or two events.
- Should I use disposable cups or real glasses for a party?
- Disposable plastic cups are the cheapest option per unit (roughly $0.06–$0.09 each in bulk) and the easiest cleanup, which makes sense for a casual backyard crowd. Real glassware reads as more intentional for anything dressier — a wedding, a cocktail party, a client event — and holds cold or carbonated drinks better than plastic.
